In 2025, China’s "dual carbon" goals enter a critical sprint phase, yet green and low-carbon development often faces the "last mile" challenge — insufficient public awareness, weak motivation for enterprise transformation, and limited grassroots implementation resources. It seems there is an invisible wall between the grand climate narrative and ordinary people’s daily lives. Based on this, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment’s Center for Communications and Education, Onewo Inc., jointly with Tsinghua University’s Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Corporate Carbon Neutrality Action, and C Team Center for Promoting Climate Change Response, launched the " Distinguished Green Users for Space Action Action." This initiative collects action stories from all walks of life across the country in terms of green space usage, aiming to enhance citizens’ awareness of ecological civilization and willingness to participate.

Recently, the " Distinguished green users for space' Action" Case Exchange Event was held in Shenzhen. Since April, the working group of the " Distinguished green users for space' Action" has collected a total of 96 cases from various industries across the country. Focusing on the low-carbon model of "making good use of existing resources," this event featured 12 project case presenters who shared rich and vivid stories of green and low-carbon practices. Among them, the cases from Guangdong, characterized by "pragmatism and innovation," have become a microcosm of the construction of a Beautiful China nationwide. Through grassroots practices, they have transformed national policies into tangible improvements in people's livelihood, providing Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area wisdom for the construction of a Beautiful China.

Shenzhen Futian Mangrove Ecological Park, as a visit and learning site of this event, was highly praised by the visiting guests. Integrating multiple functions including "popular science education, coastal culture, natural landscapes, and leisure tourism," the park is also home to various species such as the national first-class protected animal black stork, rare waterbird Chinese egret, rare falcated duck, as well as otters, leopard cats, small Indian civets and other creatures. It showcases a beautiful picture of coexistence between the city and nature, attracting over one million visitors annually and becoming a benchmark for ecotourism.

"In collaboration with Shenzhen Xianhu Botanical Garden, the school has built 10 mini plant science popularization and exploration gardens with different plant themes in the 2,300-square-meter flower beds on campus. It integrates the scientific research knowledge of the botanical garden into campus scenarios to create ecological education." The ecological education project of Zhongshan Diyin Public School covers more than 5,000 teachers and students, with an ecological literacy improvement rate of 90%, embodying the Guangdong educational innovation of "cultivating people through the environment." The sharing guest from the school also stated that in the future, it will jointly carry out "campus ecological workshops" with other schools in the jurisdiction, which is expected to benefit more than 5 schools.

"As of the end of 2024, Onewo's Common Development Program has helped 1,263 frontline service personnel achieve career transformation, supporting the growth and development of every employee; a total of 4,265 AED devices have been deployed in the service areas, successfully saving 31 lives; the digital grassroots governance tool 'Tiancheng Owners' Committee Workbench' has been implemented in more than 5,100 communities, providing integrated intelligent management solutions for sub-districts and community owners' committees." Zhu Baoquan, representative of the organizer and Chairman of Onewo, took the company as an example to share practices of technology empowering low carbon: "We optimize energy consumption in public spaces through AI algorithms, making energy conservation silent yet effective. This is also the core of the Green Space Users' Action — activating existing resources rather than relying on hardware renovation." Zhu Baoquan also believes that the core of the Green Space Users' Action is "activating the role of people," and Guangdong's open culture has provided fertile ground for such innovation.

Li Penghui, Director of the Public Communication Office at the Ministry of Ecology and Environment’s Center for Communications and Education, further pointed out: "The highlight of Guangdong's cases lies in integrating ecological concepts into daily life, such as community waste classification and campus carbon education, forming a promotable paradigm. This is in line with Guangdong's spirit of 'daring to be the first.'”

From Guangdong to the Nation: Ripples of "Low Carbon"

From Foshan’s community solar PV projects that feed back people's livelihood through green electricity revenues to form a sustainable mechanism, to Zhongshan’s campus carbon education that makes ecological civilization a literacy rather than a burden, and to Shenzhen-based Onewo providing integrated intelligent management solutions for sub-districts and community owners' committees through digital grassroots governance tools... These Guangdong cases vividly demonstrate how to transform policies into people's well-being and form a consensus that "low carbon equals development."

Zhang Jian, Vice President of Tsinghua University’s Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, believes that the prominent feature of Guangdong’s projects is the integration of economy and environmental protection. Guangdong’s projects are good at integrating resources — for example, Diyin Public School cooperating with scientific research institutions and community projects introducing corporate support. Such "cross-border integration" amplifies emission reduction benefits. "This 'low input, high participation' model provides a replicable path for the construction of a Beautiful China.

He Chaoxin, Chief Youth Officer of the Global University Climate Forum, further supplemented: "Guangdong’s exploration has proven that low-carbon transformation can enhance people's sense of happiness. The creativity shown by Greater Bay Area youth in projects, such as carbon point design and environmental protection cultural and creative products, provides a youthful perspective for a Beautiful China."

Wang Weiwei, Chairman of the Green Space Users' Action and General Manager of Onewo's Sustainable Development Center, said: "Guangdong’s cases provide a reference for the whole country, and we will promote excellent practices to be included in the DGUS Yearbook. In the future, the action will strengthen Guangdong-Hong Kong cooperation to bring Greater Bay Area experience to the world." Wang Weiwei revealed that the working group is in contact with policy departments to convert cases into standard recommendations, providing institutional support for the construction of a Beautiful China.

In Wang Weiwei’s view, the in-depth value of the Green Space Users' Action lies in injecting "inclusiveness" into the construction of a Beautiful China. As a major manufacturing hub, Guangdong often regards green transformation as a "hard task," but the cases show that soft behavioral changes are equally important.

From Lingnan to the whole country, the Green Space Users' Action has proven that when green development takes root in folk wisdom, a Beautiful China is no longer a vision but a tangible daily life. With the promotion of more cases, the Greater Bay Area may become a model area for green transformation, contributing Chinese wisdom to global ecological civilization.
