In fact, not long ago, the news of Wang Shi's re-starting business caused a thousand waves and attracted huge public attention.

As the former head of Vanke, a "universal real estate company", Wang Shi sent the Destone Acquisition Corp. (hereinafter referred to as "Destone Acquisition") he built to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2022. This is his second time Step into the gate of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

The prospectus shows that Destone Acquisition was established on May 31, 2021 and is registered in the Cayman Islands. The company aims to merge, share exchange, asset acquisition, share purchase, reorganization or similar with one or more companies. In terms of goals, the prospectus shows that it intends to focus on green technology and environmentally friendly consumer goods and services.

As the first "carbon neutral theme" SPAC to apply for issuance in the Hong Kong market, this move is considered by most people to be Wang Shi's old Ji Fuzheng. After 4 years of dormancy, he re-entered the arena at the age of 71 to start a business.

However, digging deep into Wang Shi's movements over the years and the Shenshi Group behind it, we will find that this may not be Wang Shi's just involvement in "double carbon", but a plan that has lasted for nearly 20 years due to his concern about climate change.

On April 21, Wang Shi said in an exclusive interview with a reporter from Times Weekly that in September 2020, China proposed to strive to peak carbon emissions in 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality in 2060. "Planning".

Wang Shi himself is a senior environmentalist. An employee close to him in Vanke once told the Times Weekly reporter that Wang Shi never uses paper cups, but only uses water cups that he carries with him. 20 years of pursuit.

Thinking: Having 20 Years of "Green Development" Crisis Awareness

In 2009, Wang Shi stood on the podium of the Copenhagen Global Climate Conference for the first time. At that time, he was invited by the United Nations to speak on behalf of nearly 100 Chinese enterprises and issued the "Arctic Declaration" because he led Vanke to become the most representative "green building" real estate company in China.

“The “Kyoto Protocol” did not give developing countries any hard targets for carbon reduction, so the attempts of Chinese enterprises to reduce carbon emissions were all voluntary. At that time, Vanke’s achievements in green building caused the United Nations Environment Department's attention." Wang Shi said to a reporter from Times Weekly.

It is precisely because of this opportunity that the Chinese business community, represented by Wang Shi, stood on the stage of the Global Climate Conference and showed the world that Chinese entrepreneurs are concerned about the global climate and their determination to reduce carbon.

Vanke embarked on the road of "green building", not unrelated to Wang Shi's passion for mountain climbing. Hemingway wrote in "The Snows of Kilimanjaro": "Majestic and towering, unbelievably white in the sun, it is the square top of Mount Kilimanjaro." Such a description once made Wang Shi yearn for . However, in 2002, he climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa with longing, but did not see a single snowflake.

 "I am an adventure lover and a nature lover, so I am very sensitive to this phenomenon." Wang Shi told the Times Weekly reporter.

Afterwards, Wang Shi checked relevant information and found that an important cause of climate change was the disappearance of forests, and the real estate industry was the major consumer of forests. Later, Wang Shi released a set of data in a speech that China is the world's largest wood-demanding country, and 10% of the imported wood ends up in construction sites.

Wang Shi mentioned in his speech at the 2021 Glasgow Climate Conference: Vanke is the largest real estate company in China, that is to say, if I make changes, it may have an obvious positive effect on climate change. Driven by a huge sense of crisis, Wang Shi officially opened the road to environmental protection.

In 2003, Wang Shi proposed to "build a house like a car". Since then, Vanke has started the industrialization of housing. Housing industrialization can improve the overall quality of housing, reduce costs, reduce material consumption and energy consumption, but in the early stage, it requires a lot of cost investment. At that time, it was the era when real estate companies could lay down and make money after taking the land, and many people questioned Wang Shi's "superfluous" choice. But in Wang Shi's view, we must focus on the future.

“Vanke’s scale is too large to make a U-turn. Green Construction just spends more energy and makes less profit; in the future, this will become the core competitiveness of Vanke.” Wang Shi analyzed to a reporter from Times Weekly.

Under the leadership of Wang Shi, Vanke became one of the earliest real estate companies to do "green building". In 2007, Vanke released its first corporate social responsibility report, which clearly listed environmental and social responsibility as the main topics; in 2009, Vanke's new headquarters building was completed and introduced the first LEED Platinum certification in China.

Now after 19 years, the "industrialized housing" advocated by Wang Shi is attracting attention from local governments; and from 2009 to the present, Wang Shi himself has been a frequent visitor to the Global Climate Conference for 13 years. "After 20 years of environmental protection, from representing 100 companies to 1 million companies, in 2020, I finally heard the Chinese government announce the 'two-carbon' goal to the world. If I don't do this industry, I'm sorry to myself." Wang Shi even thought that , the "dual carbon" economy has become the new focus of his life.

Screaming: Calling on more Companies to Take Action

Wang Shi in today, in the eyes of the world, has long since faded from the title of a successful real estate developer, and has become an "environmental protection" person who waving the flag. However, Wang Shi's cry is not only limited to his own influence, but more inclined to realize it through business.In fact, in addition to making Vanke a benchmark for “green building” housing enterprises in business, Wang Shi has participated in many environmental protection and green public welfare projects.

In 2004, Wang Shi and a group of entrepreneurs initiated the establishment of the Alxa SEE Ecological Association, which is committed to funding and supporting the growth of Chinese non-governmental environmental protection NGOs; in 2016, Wang Shi, together with industry associations and real estate companies, launched the "Green Supply Chain Action for China's Real Estate Industry" ”, which runs the concept of environmental protection and resource conservation throughout the real estate industry, and promotes the participation of both upstream and downstream supply chains; after retiring from Vanke, Wang Shi has been promoting environmental protection on his own Tik Tok.

In Wang Shi's view, carbon reduction cannot be limited to public welfare and slogans, but also needs to find a business model to achieve it.

There is an important node that was repeatedly mentioned by Wang Shi. At the 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference, nearly 200 parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change reached the Paris Agreement, which is considered to be the most important part of human history following the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The third landmark international legal text on climate change will form the global climate governance pattern after 2020.

 "The public generally thinks that green development is more of a 'public welfare' attribute, but when green technology and business are combined, they create a 'low-carbon economy'. Wang Shi told the Times Weekly reporter, "That is, since 2015, I began to pay more attention to business integration opportunities and technology integration opportunities, and called on more enterprises to act in concert." “After returning from the Paris Climate Change Conference, I launched the Avenue Fund under the Vanke Public Welfare Fund, which aims to integrate China’s green and low-carbon economy. The main task at ordinary times is to contact relevant Chinese enterprises to help and guide them to develop environmental protection and ecology. , green and low-carbon." Wang Shi recalled to the Times Weekly reporter.

"Enterprises can play a more important role." At that time, Wang Shi was keenly aware that China would usher in a real "carbon economy" era. Another important milestone is that at the 75th United Nations General Assembly in September 2020, China announced that it will strive to reach a peak in carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and strive to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060.

"This time, I really realized that China's 'dual-carbon' economic era has officially arrived." Wang Shi told the Times Weekly reporter, which means that the commercialization of carbon neutrality can be officially put on the agenda.

Exploring: Achieving Carbon Neutrality with "No Weaknesses"

"Double Carbon" has become the goal of the country. In addition, the 20 -year "green development dream" has made Wang Shi completely clarify the future direction.However, how to cut in is the most critical and most difficult problem.

Although he entered the new field of carbon neutrality, Wang Shi did not give up his old line.

"The scenario of urban carbon neutrality is complex, and the ability to integrate resources is very important. Therefore, I use the method of industry and financial investment to provide soil for excellent enterprises and technologies." Zhang Tian once said at a "dual carbon" investor round table that the Destone team would start with the best architectural tracks and urban scenarios. In this track, there are two directions: horizontal and vertical: horizontally, the transformation of existing communities and buildings, the establishment of a special "carbon neutral community" team to create scene-level carbon neutrality; vertical, focus on new materials , new energy to building technology, intelligent urban operation, etc.

"From the perspective of regions, buildings, transportation, residents and other dimensions, carbon neutrality is a thing that cannot have shortcomings, and needs to achieve overall integration. What we are doing now is to invest in companies and investment projects through the combination of investment projects. To explore the possibility and feasibility of carbon neutrality for urban scenarios." Zhang Tian said.

At present, Destone is mainly divided into investment team and industrial team. Industrial teams are turning communities into samples, preparing for future expansion into cities.

In Wang Shi's view, this requires the mobilization of three forces. First, we need to change the way of production, and call on more Chinese companies to make the same change; second, we need to change people's way of life and ideas to pave the way for zero waste, waste reduction and circular economy in the community; Third, integrate resources to provide soil for excellent enterprises and technologies.

"Actually, the business creation team I organized will present a case of a carbon-neutral community at this year's COP27 conference, the Shenzhen Dameisha Vanke Center. The center was completed in 2009 and is a collection of office, conference It is a multi-functional building integrating exhibition and exhibition." Wang Shi revealed to the Times Weekly reporter that when this project was completed, it had reached the platinum level certification of the US LEED standard, of which green energy accounted for 18%, and the carbon emission was 929 tons per year. According to the current high quality standards of Chinese urban buildings, it is still leading.

Wang Weiwei, director of the Office of the Honorary Chairman of Vanke, told the Times Weekly reporter that the project is undergoing a new round of renovation. It is expected to start construction in May 2022 and be completed in October. After completion, the project's renewable energy utilization rate will reach 82%, and carbon emissions will be reduced to 82%. The volume decreased by 91.6% to as low as 78 tons/year. "The project modification name is called 'Biosphere Three.'"

"This model only solves the 'near-zero carbonization' of one community, but the community is a small city, and the city is a big community. If this model works, we will be able to provide a feasible solution for China's carbon-neutral communities and carbon-neutral cities. model and method." Wang Shi said.

然而,深挖王石多年动向及其背后的深石集团,却会发现,这可能并非王石刚刚涉足“双碳”,而是源于他对于气候变化的关注、已经持续了近20年的筹谋。

4月21日,王石在接受时代周报记者独家专访时谈到,2020年9月,中国提出力争2030年碳排放达到峰值、2060年实现碳中和,这样的定调,切中了自己的“筹谋”。

王石本人是资深环保人士,万科内部接近他的员工曾对时代周报记者表示,王石从不用纸杯,全部使用随身携带的水杯;同时,他更是对于企业的绿色可持续发展有着长达近20年的追求。

“他是一个能把情怀与商业很好结合在一起的商业领袖。”深石集团旗下投资平台——深石资本首席执行官张天对时代周报记者谈道。据记者深入了解发现,深石资本正是由王石发起成立的专门布局碳中和领域的投资平台。

“你如今还是个理想主义者吗?”面对记者这样的提问,王石毫不犹豫给出了肯定的答案。这样的情怀,让不少媒体把如今的王石和褚时健联系在一起。

王石曾说:“当年拜访褚时健,就像拜访神一样。”

“烟草大王”褚时健是一代商业传奇人物。2002年,已经74岁高龄的褚时健和爱人马静芬到哀牢山承包了一万多亩土地,种下第一批冰糖橙,并将其命名为“褚橙”。“人生总有起落,精神终有传承。”这是褚橙官网上的一句LOGO,而这似乎也成为了王石开启新篇章的注脚。

“中国企业气候行动的代表与推动者”,或许这才是王石如今最准确的标签。

思索:20年“绿色发展”危机意识

2009年,王石第一次站在哥本哈根全球气候大会的演讲台上。彼时,他由于带领万科成为中国最具代表性的“绿建”房企,而受到联合国的邀请,代表中国近100家企业进行发言并发 表《北极宣言》。“《京都议定书》并没有给发展中 国家有任何减碳的硬性指标,所以当时中国企业做减碳方面的尝试,都是 自愿的。当时万科在绿建方面的成绩,引起了联合国环境署的注意。”王石对时代周报记者谈道。

正是由于这样的契机,让以王石为代表的中国企业界,站在了全球气候大会的舞台上,向全世界展现了中国企业家这个群体,对全球气候的关注及减碳决心。

万科走上“绿建”这条路,与王石热衷于登山不无关系。海明威《乞力马扎罗的雪》一书中写道:“雄伟高耸,在阳光下白得令人难以置信,正是乞力马扎罗山方形的山顶。”这样的描述曾令王石心生向往。然而2002年,怀揣着憧憬的他登顶非洲乞力马 扎罗山,却没有看到一片雪花。

“我是一个探险爱好者,也是大自然爱好者,所以对这个现象非常敏感。”王石对时代周报记者说道。

随后,王石查阅了相关资料,发现气候变化的重要原因是森林的消失,而消耗森林的大户,就是房地产行业。后来,王石在一次演讲中发布了一组数据,中国是世界上最大的木材需求国,其中10%进口木材最终进入建筑工地。

王石在2021年格拉斯哥气候大会上发言时曾提到:万科是中国第一大地产公司,也就是说,如果我做出改变,可能会对气候变化,产生明显的正面作用。”

“万科项目大量使用木材,所造成的浪费可能会为万科的发展埋下巨大的雷。”一位接近王石的人士向时代周报记者透露。在巨大的危机意识的驱动之下,王石正式开启了环保之路。

2003年,王石提出“像造汽车一样造房子”,自此,万科开启住宅产业化。住宅产业化可以提高住宅的整体质量,降低成本,降低物耗、能耗,但在前期,需要不少成本投入。彼时,正是房企拿了地就可以躺着赚钱的时代,不少人质疑王石“多余”的选择。但在王石看来,要着眼于未来。

“万科规模庞大不好调头,绿建只是多费些精力且少赚点利润;未来,这会成为万科的核心竞争力。”王石向时代周报记者分析道。

  在王石的带动之下,万科成为最早做“绿建”的房企之一。2007年,万科发布其首份企业社会责任报告,明确将环境及社会责任列为主要议题;2009年,万科落成的新总部大楼引入国内第一个LEED白金认证。

如今历经19年,王石所倡导的“工业化住宅”正在被各地政府关注;而从2009年至今,王石本人持续13年成为全球气候大会的常客。“20年的环保历程,从代表100家企业到100万家企业,终于在2020年听到中国政府对全世界宣布‘双碳’目标,不做这项实业,我对不起自己。”王石甚至认为,“双碳”经济成为了他生命中新的重点。

呐喊:号召更多企业行动起来

如今的王石,在世界眼中,早已褪去成功地产商的头衔,而成为摇旗呐喊的“环保”人士。只是,王石的呐喊不仅仅停留在自身的影响力,更倾向于通过商业来实现。

事实上,除了在商业上把万科打造成“绿建”房企标杆,这些年王石参与过的环保及绿色公益项目并不少。

2004年,王石和一众企业家发起成立阿拉善SEE生态协会,致力于资助和扶持中国民间环保NGO的成长;2016年,王石联合行业协会与房企发起“中国房地产行业绿色供应链行动”,将环境保护和资源节约的理念贯穿于整个房地产行业,推动上下游供应链都参与进来;从万科退休后,王石还一直在自己的抖音宣传环保。

在王石看来,减碳不能只停留在公益和口号上,也需要找到一种商业模式去实现。

有一个重要的节点,是被王石反复提及的。2015年巴黎气候变化大会上,《联合国气候变化框架公约》近200个缔约方达成《巴黎协定》,被认为是继1992年《联合国气候变化框架公约》、1997年《京都议定书》之后,人类历史上应对气候变化的第三个里程碑式的国际法律文本,形成2020年后的全球气候治理格局。

“大众一般都会认为绿色发展更多的是‘公益’属性,但当绿色技术和商业结合在一起时,它们创造出了一种‘低碳经济’,通过商业手段,才能实现可持续的绿色发展。”王石对时代周报记者谈道,“也就是从2015年起,我开始更多地关注商业的整合机会、技术的整合机会,并号召更多企业一致行动起来。”

2016年4月22日,中国签署《巴黎协定》。王石意识到,一场自上而下的减碳革命,就要在中国展开了,这也给他带来了更多行动上的曙光。

“从巴黎气候变化大会回来之后,我在万科公益基金旗下,发起了大道基金,旨在融合中国绿色低碳经济,平时的主要任务就是联络中国相关的企业,帮助和引导他们发展环保生态、绿色低碳。”王石对时代周报记者回忆。

“企业可以发挥更为重要的作用了。”当时的王石已经敏锐地意识到,中国将迎来真正的“碳经济”时代。而另一个重要的节点是在2020年9月第七十五届联合国大会上,中国宣布力争 2030 年前二氧化碳排放达到峰值,努力争取 2060年前实现碳中和目标。

“这一次,我真正意识到,中国的‘双碳’经济时代正式来临了。”王石对时代周报记者说,这意味着,碳中和的商业化可以正式提上日程。

探索:实现“没有短板”的碳中和

“双碳”已然成为国家目标,再加之20年的“绿色发展梦”,让王石彻底明确了未来的方向。然而如何切入,这是最关键也是最难的问题。

在业内人士看来,王石近期的一系列亮相,让其20年的“筹谋”逐渐浮出水面;而他所推动的“中国企业关注全球气候展”,及落实企业减碳的路径,也逐渐清晰起来。“实业+金融”,似乎让王石看到了一条可行的路。

虽进入了碳中和这个全新的领域,但王石并没有放弃自己的老本行。

“城市碳中和的场景是复杂的,资源整合能力非常重要,所以我运用实业加金融投资的方式,为优秀的企业和技术提供土壤。”2022年4月23日,王石在《联合国影响力投资及可持续发展年度论坛》大会的发言中说道。

张天曾在一次“双碳”投资者圆桌会议上表示,深石团队会从最擅长的建筑赛道和城市场景入手。在这个赛道,有一横一纵两个方向:横向上,对现有社区及建筑的改造,成立专门的 “碳中和社区”团队,打造场景层面的碳中和;纵向上,关注从新材料、新能源到建筑科技、智能化的城市运营等。

“从区域、建筑、交通、居民等各维度来说,碳中和是一个不能有短板的事情,需要实现整体的融合。我们目前正在做的事情,就是通过投资企业和投资项目的结合,来为城市场景碳中和探索可能性和可行性。”张天说。

目前,深石主要分为投资团队和实业团队。实业团队正在将社区变为样本,为未来扩大到城市做准备。

在王石看来,这需要动员三种力量。第一,需要对生产方式进行改变,同时号召更多中国企业做出同样的改变;第二,需要对人们的生活方式和理念进行改变,在社区零废弃、减少浪费和循环经济方面做铺垫;第三,整合资源,为优秀的企业和技术提供土壤。

“实际上,我组织的商业创造团队,将会在今年的COP27大会上,展示一个碳中和社区案例,即深圳大梅沙万科中心。该中心建造完成于2009年,是一个集办公、会议、展览为一体的多功能建筑。”王石对时代周报记者透露,这个项目在建成时,已经达到了美国LEED标准的白金级认证,其中绿色能源占比18%,碳排放量929吨/年,按照当下中国城市建筑的高质量标准仍然是领先的。
