The second International Forum on Sustainable Urban Development, which opened in Chengdu on The morning of January 1, for the first time in Sichuan, uses forests to offset greenhouse gases generated by the forum.

At the forum on the morning of January 1, Chengdu officially launched the "carbon neutral" project -- this October, Chengdu will build 500 mu of carbon neutral forest in Longquanshan Urban Forest Park with camphor tree and ginkgo tree as the main tree species. Over the next 20 years, the forest's carbon sink will offset all greenhouse gas emissions from the forum -- an estimated 921 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, of which transport accounts for more than 50 per cent.

1日上午开幕的论坛上，成都正式启动“碳中和”项目——今年10月，成都将以香樟、银杏为主要树种，在龙泉山城市森林公园建设500亩碳中和林。未来20年，这片森林碳汇将抵消此次论坛产生的全部温室气体排放——预计排放温室气体921吨二氧化碳当量，其中交通工具在二氧化碳排放总量中，占到了50%以上。
