Tencent announced today the shortlist for the "Carbon Search 2.0" global top 50, with selected teams from 12 countries and regions around the world. This plan aims to accelerate the development of next-generation climate technologies and core capabilities required to achieve net zero by 2050, and is a milestone global initiative.

This year's shortlisted innovation teams have stood out from over 660 applications from 54 countries and regions worldwide, and will continue to compete for catalytic funding totaling 200 million yuan (approximately 28 million US dollars). In addition, the winning team will also receive technical resources, expert guidance, and the opportunity to carry out pilot projects in real scenarios, including climate fragile areas such as Kenya, Maldives, and Serbia.

Crossing the 'Death Valley' of Climate Innovation

From breakthrough discoveries to practical applications, the development of technology is often constrained by the so-called 'death valley' - the critical gap between early innovation and large-scale deployment. Due to the scarcity of funds, collaborative resources, and testing environments, many climate technologies are difficult to develop.

The Carbon Search Program was established to bridge this gap. Promote cross-border implementation of climate innovation

On the basis of focusing on China in the first phase and achieving good results, the "Carbon Exploration Plan 2.0" has expanded globally, committed to exploring and supporting early climate technologies with potential. The top 50 shortlisted teams come from universities, research institutions, and startups, with projects covering four key areas:

1. Carbon Removal (CDR): Promote pilot projects in Kenya to accelerate the implementation of scalable, low-cost permanent carbon removal solutions, which are expected to significantly reduce the cost of Direct Air Capture (DAC).

2.
