COFCO Coca-Cola Beverages (Tianjin) Limited actively responds to the national "dual carbon" strategy and has continuously deepened its "green manufacturing and environmental public welfare" dual-driven practices in recent years.

In terms of "green manufacturing," the company systematically eliminated 23 high-energy-consuming motors between 2022 and 2023, fully replacing them with efficient and energy-saving YE3 motors, significantly reducing electricity consumption. At the same time, in response to the high steam consumption issues at its self-operated sewage treatment plant, engineers innovatively installed a tubular heat exchanger, replacing the original direct steam heating with a heat exchange mode, successfully achieving a significant reduction in steam usage.

The company currently owns five production lines with an annual production capacity of 520,000 tons, serving over 70,000 customers in the Tianjin market. The results of the 'Green Manufacturing' project are as follows:

1. Energy Savings: Replaced high-energy-consuming motors, with an investment of 250,000 yuan, reducing electricity consumption by 29,500 kWh annually, achieving an economic benefit of 23,600 yuan;

2. Emission Reductions: Added heat exchangers to the wastewater treatment system, with an investment of 140,000 yuan, saving 205 tons of steam annually, achieving an economic benefit of 61,900 yuan;

3. Decrease in Pollutants: A total reduction of 27.20 tons of standard coal equivalent and 66.92 tons of CO₂ emissions throughout the year.

4. Number of participants in science popularization/mobilization activities: The Tianjin plant has developed a dual-drive model combining offline practical activities with online multimedia promotion, widely mobilizing employees and the public to participate in environmental protection actions. Activities have been deeply involved in various public spaces such as government departments, communities, schools, parks, and beaches. To date, more than forty offline activities have been conducted; coverage reports have been published on authoritative media platforms such as Learning Power, Tianjin Daily, Phoenix Network, NetEase News, and Tencent News, achieving a total communication reach of over ten million people.

The Tianjin factory has driven energy efficiency improvements and resource optimization in production through a dual approach of technological innovation and public welfare actions. This has not only enhanced energy efficiency in production stages but also extended environmental value to the social level, forming a green ecological system with both internal and external collaboration.

In terms of 'green factories,' compared to high-energy-consuming motors, the newly replaced energy-saving motors have significantly reduced energy consumption and operating costs through optimized design and the use of efficient materials. Energy-saving motors typically have better heat dissipation performance and lower mechanical losses, enabling stable operation for extended periods and reducing downtime caused by overheating or mechanical failures, thus achieving higher operational efficiency. Furthermore, energy-saving motors can lower maintenance costs, as their efficient operation reduces wear and tear on components, extending their lifespan.

Before the installation of the heat exchanger in the wastewater treatment system, steam was directly introduced into the adjustment tank for heating, affecting the entire tank and resulting in high steam usage. Additionally, being too close to the submersible sewage pump accelerated the aging of the waterproof seal of the pump, leading to frequent pump failures. After implementing the technical renovation, a reliable heat exchange device was added to the pipeline before the anaerobic tank of the pump, directly heating the wastewater entering the anaerobic tank, which improved heat exchange efficiency and reduced steam usage while also cutting down the maintenance costs for the submersible sewage pump.

Regarding the steam component: assuming 500m³ of water in the adjustment tank, to maintain the temperature of the 500m³ of wastewater at 36°C to 38°C, direct steam input was necessary. With the addition of the heat exchanger, only the portion directed into the anaerobic tank after the pump requires heating, with a daily inflow of about 400m³.

The steam used in the wastewater tank can be divided into two portions: one part maintains the temperature of 500m³ of wastewater, while the other part heats newly incoming wastewater each day. The first portion of steam is the energy-saving component, and experiments showed that this portion accounts for one-third of the total steam usage (spring test); in autumn and winter, due to greater temperature differences, the amount of steam saved is expected to increase further.
